DESCRIPTION:
The Asian Development Bank's Clean Energy Financing Partnership Facility (CEFPF) and the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute signed a channel financing agreement for the establishment of a Carbon Capture and Storage Fund on June 19, 2009. The initial funding, which consists of A$21.5 million (U.S. $17.3 million), was contributed by the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute of Australia to support geological investigations and environmental studies regarding potential carbon dioxide storage sites, capacity building and community awareness programs to accelerate the deployment of CCS demonstration projects around Asia. Initial priority will be given to initiatives in China, India, Indonesia and Viet Nam.
EXPERIENCE: In February 2010, ADB said it will offer US$ 1.25 million to help the China's Tianjin Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle, or "Greengen" project implement carbon dioxide capture and storage technology by 2013.
