In May 2010, the government of the Netherlands will provide subsidies of up to € 150 million ($190.5 million) in the next 10 years for the Rotterdam Capture Storage and Demonstration Project (ROAD) at Maasvlakte. The project is being developed by German utility E.ON and Belgian energy company Electrabel, which plans to capture CO2 from an E.ON coal plant in Rotterdam and transport it 25 km by pipeline for storage in depleted gas fields under the North Sea.
The Netherlands government subsidy will be in addition to a contribution of up to € 180 million to the pilot project from the European Energy Programme for Recovery. (See separate incentive entry in this database.)
