The United Kingdom's Energy Act of 2010 provides the Secretary of State of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) the authority to "provide financial assistance in respect of CCS demonstration projects." The Act supports the construction of four commercial-scale CCS demonstration projects in the UK, and the retrofit of additional CCS capacity to these projects should it be required at a future point.
The act also allows the Secretary of State of DECC to institute an electricity supply levy to be charged in order to pay for CCS demonstration projects.
It also requires the government to prepare regular reports on the progress that has been made on the de-carbonization of electricity generation in Britain and the development and use of CCS.
